How the Gateway came to pass How the Gateway came to pass...
The gateway entrance feature was an original idea by Gordon Burns, a resident of the village. The landmark feature encapsulates a coal mining and seaside theme set in striking stonework. It was designed and agreed by a working group of local residents with the help of Casella Stanger Architects and Newbiggin Life.

In the last few months we've held 7 focus group meetings attended by over 80 residents to examine key issues which need to be addressed in your neighbourhood. The focus groups represent the Colliery, East, West and Central zones of the village and views are being incorporated in the preparation of the regeneration master-plan.

Swift response to residents concerns Swift response to residents concerns!
A successful bid for £500,000 has been granted to Wansbeck District Council to fund a new enforcement team for Newbiggin and East Ashington. The team, consisting of a manager and 7 officers, will deal swiftly with complaints about dog fouling, drugs misuse, graffiti, litter, fly tipping, abandoned vehicles, nuisance neighbours and noisy barking dogs.

With the new housing rapidly springing up in the village and more construction work on the way in coming years. Newbiggin Life has been helping local schoolchildren to understand the dangers of local building sites, encouraging them to steer clear and play safe.

Spital Garden will grow again
Elizabeth Hall on the Spital Estate in Newbiggin has passed the initial stage of applying for a grant from the Living Spaces fund. Phil Macari, an enabler for the Living Spaces programme, who has been working closely with the Residents Association said: "Living Spaces provides grants to help people improve open spaces in their neighbourhood and create valuable places for the whole community to enjoy.

Cheviot Housing to start on site Cheviot Housing to start on site
Cheviot Housing Association will commence on site this summer with 10 new homes for rent on Woodhorn Road. These new homes will be a replacement for some of the properties which will be demolished at the Colliery Estate.
