Coastal defence scheme looks set to go ahead
A scheme worth over £10 million to provide a new, restored beach and substantial coastal protection in Newbiggin looks set to get the wave of approval. Wansbeck MP Denis Murphy led a debate in the House of Commons raising his fears over the revelation that the scheme had been withdrawn following changes to the priority funding criteria. Newbiggin - A model village
Over 400 local people turned out to see the model of the regeneration plans for the village. That was the fantastic response to the final round of consultation before the publication of the master plan for village regeneration. The scale model, shaped by earlier discussions about Newbigginís future, first went on display at the St. Bartholomew's Centre before youngsters at the County Middle School had their say

New homes in Newbiggin
The regeneration of the village continues to pick up pace with plans for new homes in Cumberland Avenue. Cheviot Housing Association in partnership with the Housing Corporation will commence building on the £2.2 million project to construct 14 rental properties and six shared ownership homes in February. Bringing back memories at Memorial Park
Work has begun on a project to restore Newbiggin's Memorial Park to its 1920s splendour.
The park is undergoing a £175,000 face lift which it is hoped will once again make it a popular leisure time attraction. [Full story]
