Grainger Homes - first owners move in
Shaun and Karen Willis have lived in the village with their children for over 10 years : "This is the first time there has been homes like this available in Newbiggin", Mrs Willis said. A totally
blinging
weekend!
10 young residents of the village went on a team building weekend with Newbiggin Life in partnership with Newbiggin Middle School. In order to ensure that younger residents views and opinions are incorporated into the forthcoming masterplan, Newbiggin Life took the children on a outward bound course in Belford, Northumberland. Those involved took part in raft building, canoeing, kick rounders, football and many more activities. [Full story] |

Memorial Park restoration
The restoration of Memorial Park to its former glory is a high priority for the community and has featured strongly in the ongoing consultation process.
Thanks to a strong collaborative approach between the Northumberland Strategic Partnership, Wansbeck District Council, the Newbiggin by the Sea Community Regeneration Partnership and Newbiggin Life, funding to the sum of £150,000 has been secured to apply towards this project. [Full story] |

Improvements to Woodlea Field
In 2001 the Greening for Growth Team secured funding from the Forestry Commission to identify all derelict or formerly derelict land in South East Northumberland. This included Woodlea Field. Followed up in 2002 with a more detailed study of this site, an outline scheme was produced by Northumberland County Council. [Full story] |

Manley's Field
Barratt Homes has applied for planning permission to build a private housing development of 44 new homes on the central Manleys Field site. A large site in the heart of the village which is prone to anti-social behaviour and litter. Residents have highlighted this area as in need of improvement and suggested that housing would be the preferred option. [Full story] |

Cumberland Avenue / Long Park
Cheviot Housing Association Ltd. has secured funding from The Housing Corporation for the provision of 14 properties for rent and 6 on a shared ownership basis, on a village centre site. This development will be on site early in 2005 and a number of homes have already been pre-allocated to Newbiggin residents. The project team are working with the community regarding the design and layout of the development. |

Newbiggin Learning Initiative
The second year of the Initiative ended on 31 July 2004 with approximately 100 learners taking part. The learners have undertaken a range of courses, from IT courses to An Introduction to Beauty Therapy. A number of learners also sat the new National Tests in Literacy and Numeracy, and have gained qualifications at levels I and II. [Full story] |

New building to replace Colliery Estate housing begun
Cheviot Housing Association have commenced building opposite the new Woodhorn Farm development, with 10 new homes for rent on Woodhorn Road, due for completion in the Spring of 2005.
These will replace some of the properties demolished at the former Local Authority Colliery Estate. The development will consist of four, 2 bedroom bungalows, four 3 bedroom houses and two 4 bedroom houses to rent.
These properties have all been pre-allocated to former residents of the demolished estate who are able to choose from a range of kitchens and fittings to personalise their homes. |
