Focusing
on your neighbourhood
In the last few months
we've held 7 focus group meetings attended by over 80 residents to examine
key issues which need to be addressed in your neighbourhood. The focus
groups represent the Colliery, East, West and Central zones of the village
and views are being incorporated in the preparation of the regeneration
master-plan.
The most recent meetings
centered on community policing and was led by Inspector Paul Truscott.
Newbiggin Life is committed to working in partnership with Northumbria
Police to tackle the issues affecting you most - reducing crime and disorder
and improving the community's perceptions of the service provided by the
police in the village.
Inspector Truscott
says "working together in partnership with the community will bring
opportunities to have sustainable reductions to crime and disorder. Public
reassurance and the reduction in the fear of crime are issues we will
continue to address by engaging with the community and Newbiggin Life".
The main aim of the
focus groups is to ensure that local people can influence change. Your
views on housing, health, education, employment, safety, structural redevelopment
and transport are vital to the future development of the village. We're
very pleased that so many of you have volunteered to give your time and
enthusiasm to the groups. We're determined to build on this and get more
of you involved wherever we can. It's a real opportunity to make a difference
to the village and it's very encouraging to see so many people keen to
influence the future of the village.
Alan Driver is one
of the residents taking part, having moved to the village on his retirement
last year with his wife Pip. "The village has a quality and a livliness
which is difficult to describe. The people are wonderful and have made
us very welcome to the point where we feel very comfortable taking part
in this exercise".
So why not join the
groups and come and see for yourself? If you are interested please contact
