Lizzie's got the key to a bright future...

One of Newbiggin by the Sea's longest standing residents, Lizzie Allport has received the key to a bright future, becoming the first person to move into her new home at Cheviot Housing Associations Woodhorn Road development.

Living in the village since she was seven, Lizzie now 75, has been involved in the £1 million building project from the onset.
She, more than most, has witnessed the village's fluctuating fortune and decline so it was fitting that she should be the first to move into the new development, which has replaced some of the outdated properties at the former colliery estate.

"It has been great to be part of this project" said Lizzie. "The village has been in need of new housing for a long time. I am happy to be able to stay in the area because four generations of my family live here so we can still see each other regularly. I was able to personalise my new home by choosing the kitchen and the tiles for the kitchen and bathroom. I am enjoying life in my new home."

Built by Cheviot Housing Association the new homes which have been offered for rent consist of four two bedroom bungalows, four three bedroom houses and two four bedroom houses
that boast a number of attractive features, including double glazing, security systems and car parking within the property boundary.

Wansbeck MP Denis Murphy said: "The creation of Woodhorn Road development has helped to rejuvenate the strong sense of community which is regarded as one of Newbiggin by the Sea's strengths. Developments like this play a part in attracting more people to visit, live and work within the area, which continues to improve and benefit local residents."

Newbiggin Life held an open day for the scheme enabling residents to view the new houses and bungalows, to see for themselves the quality of the homes provided. Over 300 people attended, with 99% commenting that the quality of the houses is excellent.
