Building a brighter future

Work has started on a residential care facility within the village.

Following extensive consultation, demolition field in Newbiggin is set to benefit from the introduction of an Autism unit. The unit which will be called Alexandra Park and will feature 28 one bedroom bungalows to cater for Autistic people aged between 16 and onwards.

The aim of the project is to encourage the individuals to live as independently as possible and integrate into the wider community, safe in the knowledge that 24 hour support is available. In addition by welcoming new residents from out of the area it is hoped that this will have a positive impact on the local economy.

Resonanz are responsible for the unit's construction, which is due to be complete by Spring 2007. Recruitment days to select staff to help maintain and run the centre will be announced soon. Parents are reminded that children must not enter the site at any time.
