Bay watch exhibition
Two events are shortly being held to give local people the chance to find out more about the Bay works, as well as taking a look back at the regeneration success of the Newbiggin LIFE initiative.
The first is a day-long exhibition at Newbiggin Sports & Community Centre on Tuesday March 13th from 10.30am until 7.30pm. Wansbeck Council officials as well as representatives from contractors Westminster Dredging and marine consultants Atkins, will be present to explain the works timetable as well as answering questions from local residents, traders and business people. A spectacular addition to the exhibition will be the appearance of a model of the giant dredger Oranje
which will shuttle up and down between Newbiggin and Skegness ferrying 500,000 tonnes of sand for the beach recharge.
The vessel will anchor a mile offshore and pump its cargo onto the beach through a sunken pipeline.
Then – from Thursday March 15th to Sunday March 25th – staff from the LIFE initiative will be manning a daily exhibition in
Bertorelli’s café in Newbiggin’s Piazza. The exhibition will be open from 10.30am until 3.30pm every day, including Saturdays and Sundays.
Details about the Bay works will again be on display, alongside graphic reminders of the many achievements of Newbiggin LIFE over the past three years.
