Why not shop Local First?
A grant scheme is being planned which will help local businesses in Newbiggin to spruce up their shop or office fronts.
Details of the Wansbeck Council backed Local First initiative are still being drawn up but it is hoped the project will go live in April.
Up to £15,000 could be made available to shop and business owners to encourage a refurbishment programme which will brighten the village streets. Priority will be given to local,independent businesses where improvement will have the greatest impact.
The grants could help cover the costs of new windows and doors, painting, rendering, lighting, landscaping or paving, security measures or planning, architect’s and design fees.
Each application will be judged on its merit and against the Local First criteria.
