The summer of 2007...

...promises to be a one to remember in Newbiggin, with the construction of the new breakwater, the restoration of the village’s once popular beach, improved seafront amenities and the arrival of what may well be the furthest offshore sculpture
around Britain’s waters.

Construction work on the new 200 metre breakwater in the centre of the Bay, gets underway in earnest next month, but already the Westminster Dredging Company crews have moved into Newbiggin, to start building their works compound.

Defra is funding the Bay works to the tune of £10.1m after recognising their crucial importance in helping prevent further erosion in Newbiggin Bay, but also in supporting the LIFE-inspired regeneration of the village as well as the economic benefits to be gained locally from more tourists and daytrippers keen to enjoy a golden, sandy beach as well as viewing the Sean Henry statue Couple.
