East Ashington & Newbiggin are benefiting from £1million worth of investment which has seen the creation of a skilled rapid response team. The team priorities will be to improve housing services for local people, in both the public and private sectors, to make sure their communities are cleaner, greener & safer.

The private rented sector is important to helping us achieve sustainable and thriving communities and we value the input of both landlords and tenants in this area. It is our aim to work with private landlords to help maintain and, where necessary, improve privately owned properties and management standards to help people to live in well-maintained, safe, warm, suitable homes.

Our main priorities for private sector housing are:

  • Provide support and advice to private landlords and private tenants.
  • Improve the quality of private rented accommodation
  • Improve the standard of management in private rented accommodation
  • Develop an effective link with private landlords through the development of a steering group and regular landlords' forums.
  • Respond to issues faced by landlords and tenants.
  • Develop a landlord accreditation scheme to recognise properties reaching required standards.

Through this page we will keep you updated with details of planned events that will be taking place, however if you require any additional information or are a private landlord who would like to be involved in the initiative please contact our Private Rented Officer, Julie Young, on 01670 843 229 or by email at Julie.young@lifeinitiative.co.uk.
